Press

We have received many very favourable reviews in the national press.

"Ally McGrath's perfectly judged and effective bistro-cum-tearoom-cum-restaurant that changes through the day from lightsome lunch to scones and cakes to superb dining-out experience at night. And no big city prices or pretensions in sight. For tourists and locals he's pressed the Peebles button big-time. "
Peter Irvine - Scotland the Best 2010

"The upshot of all this is some of the best food in Scotland. McGrath's work at the Halcyon was very good, but at Osso it's virtually flawless."
"Beetroot risotto with a blue cheese croquette doesn't do justice to a dish of deep, rich tones that were at times overwhelming and were combined with an explosion of hot cheese from the croquette. With a small ring of pesto to garnish, this was as close to perfect as makes no difference."

"McGrath has always championed local, seasonal food, "nose-to-tail" cooking utilising authentic often overlooked "economy cuts" of meat and cheaper, more sustainable fish species. No change there. His prices were always moderate and continue to be so. A serious restaurant offering evening main courses at £10 and £11 these days is quite a find."

"Next day, our destination was Osso restaurant, where the contemporary feel and atmosphere could leave you thinking you've been transported far from this country town to a city gastropub"

"McGraths prices are so reasonable that they should make many a city centre restaurant owner hang their head in shame but the real strong point is the skilled, thoughtful cooking."
